The biggest factor is what you're making. Each silk weave has a personality:

Silk Satin (Charmeuse)
Shiny on one side, matte on the other. Luxurious feel. Used for pillowcases, bedding, evening wear, and high-end scarves.
Silk Twill
Has a subtle diagonal weave. Denser, stronger, holds shape. Used for neckties, structured scarves, and bags.
Silk Chiffon
Sheer, lightweight, flows like air. Perfect for bridal veils, evening overlays, and ruffled details.
Silk Organza
Crisp and sheer, holds shape. Used for structured bridal wear, ribbons, and embroidery backing.
Momme (mm) measures silk weight — higher means thicker, denser, more durable.

Order samples first. What looks perfect on a spec sheet can feel totally different in person. Always get swatches before bulk orders.
Think about printing. Habotai and satin take digital prints beautifully. Organza and chiffon work best with dye-sublimation.
Budget matters. Habotai is the most cost-effective. Satin and organza cost 30-50% more per meter.
